We have had some wonderful writing workshops, including last Thursday’s meeting  led by John Worzbyt.  John doesn’t disappoint, and  it was tremendous fun for all involved.  Ask anyone just how to get a reader interested in your work!  Readers beware, John has irresistible strategies!

Don’t forget to send in your work for our winter chapbook,  or bring it to this Thursday’s meeting.   Bailey Press will work with us to use our letterpressed covers. This is going to be a very special little book and we thank Proal Heartwell from The Village School for his wonderful references and suggestions!

We are once again invited to Millie Jo’s after Thursday’s meeting to enjoy the  MFA students at the UVA Creative Writing Program for their last night of the fall reading series.  Reading on this Thursday begins at 8:30pm, and visiting students can leave at 9pm.  There will also be a spring visit if you are unable to come.

The Tupelo Press Teen Writing Center staff have been very busy with plans for the spring.  We will continue our Thursday evening writing workshops,  expanded from 6:30-8pm for those who are wanting more time to write.  We will  invite visiting authors once a month, and we will focus on writing new material, workshopping and revision for the rest of the month since we have had so many requests for more!

Focused workshops will be offered during the spring, through the end of March, and we will send out more information next week.  These workshops will include a teen reading series, and will require registration.   We are currently working with the Writerhouse on scheduling dates and rooms, and many member authors have offered to lead workshops.  Some workshops will require a registration fee, and the Writerhouse has offered to make scholarships available.

Lastly, we have been asked by the Virginia Festival of the Book staff to assemble a calendar of literary events for teens, including contests and publications, in order to assess the potential for some projects in 2014!  Stay tuned for details!
