VFB-2015The Virginia Festival of the Book Prose and Poetry Middle and High school Reading!

Students from middle and high schools around the county will appear as authors tonight and read their work at the Omni tonight, from 7-9pm, to kick off the Virginia Festival of the Book! Thirtytwo high school students were selected to read, out of 100 or so students submitting work, as well as debuting in the annual Crossroads III anthology, over 200 page of local teen writing and photography! On March 31st students will travel to the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library at  UVA to present their book to library curator and Molly Schwartzburg, who is acquiring the anthology for the libraries permanent collection.

We are so excited to share the world through the eyes our teens in word and image! Student members set the type to print the covers on a letterpress printer at the Virginia Art of the Book Center, for a limited run of 250 copies, and each contributing student receives a courtesy copy of the anthology, which can be ordered here, while supplies last! With over 140 students contributing work, the remaining copies will be sold to help fund next year’s book!

Please consider purchasing a copy, and making a donation to our teen writing center. Every dollar supports our local programming and helps us provide free workshops, bring talented authors to our writing retreats, offer mentorships to seniors assembling their writing portfolios, and most importantly, it is a vote that our community values the next generation of writers!

Nothing means more to a writer than to know their work is being read and heard! Come to the Omni tonight and hear our students read, pick up a copy of the amazing Crossroads III anthology, and honor our young authors! Additional copies can be ordered here, while supplies last!
