Colors

Chloe Horner

I am a blank canvas.

I am pure and white and untouched.

Try splashing some pink on my cheeks.

Try throwing some blue in my eyes.

Try tossing some dirt at my feet.

It won’t matter.

You can’t paint on this canvas.

You cannot change my colors.

Only I can.

Try rubbing brown pastel onto my hands

Or pitching black soot at my face.

It won’t matter.

It will melt off like water from gold,

Separate like two immiscible liquids –

Because you cannot change my colors.

Only I can.
